The year 2026 continues to break temperature records across the globe, and here in Uganda, the frontlines of this crisis are felt in very real ways. From unpredictable planting seasons and prolonged dry spells to sudden, intense flash floods that wash away crops, our rural communities are bearing the brunt of a changing climate they did the least to cause.
This isn’t just an environmental issue—it is a matter of climate justice. When extreme weather strikes, it directly impacts clean water access, destroys household incomes, and increases the spread of waterborne and mosquito-borne illnesses.
Building Resilience from the Ground Up
ELOI stands firmly with the families most exposed to these climate-driven health and economic risks. We are moving from emergency response to proactive, long-term adaptation. Our current initiatives focus on:
- Climate-Smart Agriculture: Training local farmers in water-harvesting techniques, soil preservation, and the cultivation of drought-resistant crops so food security isn’t wiped out by a missed rainy season.
- Clean Water & Health Safeguards: Upgrading community water points to withstand flooding and protect against contamination, alongside distributing vital health resources to prevent outbreaks during heavy downpours.
- Empowering Local Voices: Ensuring that rural communities aren’t just recipients of aid, but are actively trained to lead early-warning efforts and manage their local natural resources sustainably.
“Climate justice means ensuring that those who are most vulnerable are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and infrastructure to protect their families and thrive despite the changing elements.”
Join the Movement: True climate action happens at the grassroots level. Stand with ELOI as we equip Ugandan families to safeguard their health, secure their food supply, and build a resilient future.
